Leeno Industrial, the first company to invest in Busan’s exclusive Corporate Attraction Zone within Eco Delta City, has broken ground for the construction of its new headquarters.
On the morning of January 9, at the site of the new Leeno Industrial headquarters in Eco Delta City, the city of Busan held a groundbreaking ceremony for the project. The new factory will occupy a site of 72,519㎡ (approximately 21,937 pyeong), double the size of its current facility, with a total floor area of 69,525㎡. The facility, backed by an investment of 200 billion KRW, is scheduled to begin operations in the second half of next year.
Founded in 1978, Leeno Industrial is recognized as one of Busan’s most innovative and prominent companies, having achieved a significant milestone in localizing semiconductor test pins and sockets. Its flagship product, the “Leeno Pin,” enjoys a dominant market share in the global semiconductor market. With the expansion of AI-related industries, demand for Leeno Pins is expected to surge as the need for non-memory semiconductor testing continues to grow. Since its listing on KOSDAQ in 2001, Leeno Industrial has surpassed a market capitalization of 3 trillion KRW and is poised to serve as an anchor company driving the growth of Busan's semiconductor industry.
The decision to relocate and expand in Eco Delta City was significantly influenced by Busan's proactive support. Initially, Leeno Industrial faced challenges securing a relocation site within the region and considered moving to other areas, including Gyeongsangnam-do. To prevent the relocation of a key local enterprise, the city identified a suitable site within the Corporate Attraction Zone of Eco Delta City.
However, regulatory requirements mandating the use of district heating in Eco Delta City initially posed challenges, as these regulations conflicted with the strict temperature and humidity controls required for semiconductor manufacturing processes. Through persistent efforts, including multiple visits to the Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Energy, the city succeeded in easing these regulations. Additionally, collaboration with the Korea Water Resources Corporation played a vital role in facilitating the project.
The new facility will consolidate Leeno Industrial’s production lines, currently dispersed across the Mieum Industrial Complex, to enhance operational efficiency and maximize production capabilities by product category. Equipped with cutting-edge advanced equipment, the Eco Delta City factory is expected to emerge as a new growth engine for the region. Leeno Industrial also plans to collaborate with local stakeholders to cultivate talent for the semiconductor sector.
Leeno Industrial CEO Lee Chae-yoon expressed his gratitude to the city of Busan, saying, “We are deeply thankful to Busan for providing Leeno Industrial with the opportunity to grow locally instead of relocating to the capital region. We will ensure the successful completion of this new semiconductor facility, turning it into a hub for enhancing Busan’s competitiveness in the semiconductor industry.”
Lee Jun-seung, Busan’s Deputy Mayor for Administrative Affairs, remarked, “This investment is expected to play a key role in promoting the semiconductor industry in Busan, which has been historically concentrated in the capital region. The city will continue to provide administrative support to help local startups like Leeno Industrial reinvest in the region and achieve sustainable growth.”
